In 2021, I stepped away from the service industry to focus on my family. Even then, I continued to receive calls from managers across the country—always with the same complaint I had heard throughout my career:

“There aren’t any good recruits coming through the pipeline.”

​

This was not unique to one company. It was a consistent issue everywhere I worked. And when I stopped to think about it, the question became obvious: What had we really done about it? Aside from creating internal training programs, the honest answer was simple—nothing.

After nearly 20 years of talking about the problem, I decided it was time to do something about it and put my money where my mouth had been.

The first step was partnering with a high school technical program to introduce NDT training at the high school level. Start ’em young, raise ’em right. I took a position at a local high school, leaving a six-figure income behind to focus on building the next generation of industry professionals. There, I taught Welding Technology and NDT, with the goal of bringing young people into the industry the right way—from the ground up.

Through my time teaching and consulting, I began to see a major gap in how training was being delivered. That gap led to the development of this online training program.

​

I have always been strongly opposed to training that lacks hands-on experience—so naturally, I was against online NDT training. However, after discussions with industry leaders, a simple truth became clear: if someone is already working in the industry and gaining hands-on experience every day, does that portion really need to be repeated in a classroom setting?

​

The answer is no.

​

This program is designed for working professionals who already have their on-the-job training completed but need the required classroom instruction to certify as Level II technicians. The online portion bridges that final gap—efficiently and effectively.

​

So what sets this program apart?

​

It combines the flexibility of online learning with direct access to me as your instructor. Students can schedule virtual meetings for additional explanation, clarification, and deeper discussion of course material. You are not left to figure it out on your own.

​

Additionally, I’ve learned—directly from my high school students—what training methods actually work. (Spoiler alert: it’s not what’s traditionally being done in much of the industry.)

What about welding?

​

There is a large, underserved population that often gets overlooked. With more students turning to homeschooling, many families are actively searching for quality trade programs. To meet that need, I will be offering welding classes in my personal shop for homeschool students who want hands-on trade experience.
